DEFINITIONS
What cookies are.
Cookies are small text strings that the websites visited by the user send to his terminal (usually the browser), where they are stored before being re-transmitted to the same sites at the next visit of the same user.
Cookies are usually present in users' browsers in very large numbers and sometimes even with very long temporal persistence. Cookies are used for different purposes: execution of computer authentication, monitoring of sessions, storage of information on specific configurations concerning users who access to the server, etc.
Types of cookies.
Cookies may be distinguished into two macro-categories: "technical" cookies and "profiling" cookies.
1) Technical cookies.
Technical cookies are those used for the sole purpose of transmitting a communication over an electronic communications network, or as strictly necessary for the provider of a service of the information society explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide this service. They are not used for other purposes and are normally installed directly by the owner or operator of the website. They can be divided into navigation or session cookies, which guarantee the normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, to make a purchase or authenticate to access restricted areas); analytics cookies, similar to technical cookies when used directly by the site operator to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the website; functionality cookies, which allow the user to browse according to a series of selected criteria (for example, the language selected) in order to improve the service provided.
2) Profiling cookies.
Profiling cookies are designed to create profiles related to the user and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the same in the context of surfing the net. Due to the particular invasiveness that such devices may have in the private sphere of users, European and Italian legislation requires the user to be adequately informed about their use and express their valid consent.
Cookies installed by third parties.
During navigation on a site, the user can 'receive on its terminal even cookies that are sent from different sites or web servers (so-called "third parties"), on which may be some elements (such as, for example, images , maps, sounds, specific links to pages of other domains) on the site that the same is visiting.
A notable example is represented by the presence of cookies installed by the providers of sharing services through social network sites.
INFORMATION ON THE USE OF COOKIES IN THIS SITE
The following technical cookies are used:
- SESS (+ variable alphanumeric code): technical cookie for storing session variables such as the selected language or user authentication;
- cookie-agreed: technical cookie to store the user's choice regarding the informed consent on cookies;
- text-resize: technical cookie to store the user's choice about the size of the characters.
Profiling cookies are not used.
The following "third-party" cookies are used:
NID: Most Google users have a preference cookie called "NID" in browsers. The browser sends this cookie with requests to Google websites. The NID cookie contains a unique ID that is used by Google to store your preferences and other information, such as your preferred language (for example Italian), the number of search results you want to be shown for each page (for example 10 or 20) and your preference to activate the Google SafeSearch filter.
COOKIE MANAGEMENT
The user can DENY CONSENT to the use of cookies using the settings of their browser.
The total or partial disabling of technical cookies can jeopardize the use of the website's features reserved for registered users, leaving, however, the usability of public content unaltered.
Some browsers allow you to define different settings for "owner" and "third-party" cookies.
Below are links to web pages where information is provided to manage and disable cookies through each browser.
As an example, in Firefox, through the menu Tools-> Options -> Privacy, you can access a control panel where you can define whether or not to accept the different types of cookies and proceed with their removal.
