Abstract
This chapter provides a definition of art and a brief overview on the history and development of museums and galleries; thereafter, it focuses on the more recent communicative specificities of these institutions. Museums and galleries have become increasingly user-focused and have implemented diverse strategies to heighten their accessibility and inclusivity, thus embracing multimodality and various types of content adaptation. Next, the chapter defines art and enriched (or multimodal) AD, with a focus on the main procedural, textual, linguistic, and receptive differences between live and pre-recorded art AD scripts. It also discusses and illustrates the most relevant strategies of art AD using diverse examples. Finally, the listener-dependent feature of listenability is presented to emphasise an aspect of AD that is yet to be systematically used, defined, and designed.
