Análisis de la comprensión por parte del alumnado sordo de los documentos televisivos subtitulados y criterios de mejora

This article analyses how deaf students understand subtitled cartoon programmes on Catalan television. Results indicate that students with deafness have problems in understanding cartoons, not only because the subtitles are too fast, but because literal subtitling does not allow them to look at the image and extract meaning from its content. It is deduced that new subtitling criteria should be introduced to facilitate reading of subtitles and the "reading" of images to improve understanding of television programmes.
