Audiovisual Translation is central to our lives today, as the world we are living in is becoming more and more a high-tech world. If, on the one hand, audiovisual translation practices have accompanied the upcoming modalities; on the other hand, the theory of Translation Studies hasn't been giving enough attention to them, as much as canonized translations. This article is both theoretical and descriptive, as it intends to focus on Subtitling as a legitimate field of study, by comparing it to other audiovisual translation modes, emphasizing its process as far as time and space restrictions are concerned as well as its linguistic and cultural specificities. With this, we hope to provide a contribution to the academic study of Subtitling, by providing a general view on the plurality of fields of study that lay in it.
