Abstract
Translation and Accessibility, Science for All is a research project conceived to promote innovative teaching methods in Translation and Interpreting. The main objective of the project was to study and apply different modes of accessible translation within museum contexts and use these modes as learning tools to train students of Translation and Interpreting. For this purpose, we focused on the “Journey into the Human Body” pavilion at the Parque de las Ciencias, an interactive science museum in Granada (Spain). This exhibit was the ideal context where students could emerge from the classroom and gain hands-on experience of the translation process. This paper analyses the empirical results of a study involving Spanish translation and interpreting students whose first foreign language was German or whose second foreign language was Italian. The results obtained confirm that this practical experience was extremely enriching and enhanced their translation competence. As such, it was an innovative contribution to teaching scientific translation from the students’ mother tongue to their second or third language.
