Abstract
Audio descritpion (AD) as a field of research has started to gain impetus; and in recent years it has experienced an exponential growth in the number of published articles. Whilst many of the studies have centred on the utopic way to convey objectivity in descriptions, or in the possibility to draft guidelines or standards which will allow for the creation of quality audiodescriptions, little has been investigated in the field of genres that can be audiodescribed. After a review of the studies on AD for children the article analyses the recommendations found on the suitability of audiodescription for children in various countries (Germany, UK, Catalonia and Spain). The article finally it looks at the presentation of the characters with examples extracted from the film Monsters Inc. The observations which are obtained from this analysis identify several of the multiple possibilities of further investigation which are necessary in order to be able to produce audiodescriptions that are adapted to the needs of the audience.
