Abstract
Ascertaining the degree of involvement of stake holders in AVT is complicated and accounts of what really happens in the dubbing studio are invaluable. A similar approach is taken in Dawning Leung 's contribution, ‘Audio Description in Hong Kong', providing first-hand information on the rapid development of this AVT mode in Hong Kong. An overview of the types of audio description services and training provided in Hong Kong is offered to this end. With a wide range of interesting examples and an up-to-date account of innovative academic and professional initiatives, Leung reflects on how the provision of AD services has been promoted by local non-governmental organizations and on how the role of audio describers has evolved in some contexts, where they may also act as tourist guides or even as sports trainers.
