Abstract
"Every text is a mirror picture of its source culture as far as its verbal form and physical form are concerned" (Schröder 1992: 323).

The epigraph from Schröder can be read as a ray of hope in this era of globalisation. The role played by audiovisual translation in contemporary international communication invites translator trainers to contemplate the different possibilities available when training translators for the modern mass-communication market. In this chapter we outline a course on audiovisual translation, sequenced along a threefold, progressive axis: starting with the translation of drama texts, then proceeding to dubbing (taking into account the increasing difficulties of specific genres) and, lastly, subtitling.
