Abstract
Marta Miquel Iriarte presents a study on how the information in subtitles is processed, comparing and contrasting the needs of a hearing audience with those of the hard of hearing and the deaf. The results of a questionnaire administered to 72 participants after having viewed two film sequences in English subtitled in Spanish, show that hearing persons more easily understand and store verbal information, while hard of hearing and deaf persons better process visual information.
