Abstract
In this chapter Ahrens clarifies the definitions of easy language and plain language, alongside the criticism to the first in teaching second languages, such as inadequacy of vocabulary and grammar rules, the absence of teaching advantage or lack of acceptability. The purpose of easy language is accessibility and that of second language learning is didactic; nonetheless, using easy language in the L2 classroom should not be discarded. The author concludes there is a need to establish the purpose of the texts in class and several levels in the use of easy language.
