Abstract
The authors deal with the role of translators for intralingual and interlingual easy-to-read language in Spain. This chapter reviews European and Spanish laws and analyze the standard UNE 153101:2018 EX Lectura fácil. Pautas y recomendaciones para la elaboración de documentos, which aims to regulate adaptation of texts to easy-to read language. The comparison of the UNE standard with the Libro blanco del Título de Grado en Traducción e Interpretación (ANECA 2004) reveals the parallels existing between easy-to-read adaptation, design and formatting as described in the standard and the work carried out by a translator. In conclusion, professional translators already have the competences to perform translations into easy-to-read language as a new professional profile.
