Abstract
This study presents a new methodology for improving beliefs of self-efficacy in L3 translation competence in a German as a second foreign language (L3) module using two audiovisual translation modes: Voice-Over (VO) and Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SDH). The main objective is to determine whether the students from the Bachelor's Degree Translation at the University of Granada could improve their motivation and self-consideration on their German translation competence by using these activities.
To achieve this, eight sessions were designed to work with tourism and advertising texts using the Didactic Audiovisual Translation (DAT) approach. An improvement of the students' reading and listening comprehension was noted: 76% of students expressed a very good level of listening skills in German and 64% expressed a very good listening comprehension level, compared to the 27% and 43% of students which graded themselves with very good listening and reading comprehension, respectively. Furthermore, 94% of the participants expressed an increase in motivation towards German translation modules.
