Abstract
The second chapter by Borghardt looks into her chapter as to whether the recommendation to shorten sentences and splitting subordinate clauses really reduces cognitive effort. For this, the author conducts empirical research whereby processing times in different causality scenarios are recorded. Results indicate that sentences split according to easy language rules are not processed faster than subordinate clauses with a conventional causal linker, as well as the importance of maintaining the linker so that causality can be processed.
