Abstract
Real-time subtitling is proving increasingly interesting to both the academic and the audiovisual worlds. Thanks to new technological developments for the production of real-time subtitles in general and to a huge improvement in the field of speech-recognition technology in particular, new tools are increasing the potential for 'special needs' subtitles. This chapter is an attempt to analyze the multiple aspects of respeaking comparing it to its most similar transadaptational techniques, shadowing and simultaneous interpreting.
