Abstract
Several studies have demonstrated the validity of using Audiovisual Translation (AVT) regarding acquiring a foreign language (Lertola, 2018; Talaván, 2019; Tamayo, 2016). Over the past few years, AVT has been considered not only a product of consumption, but a versatile discipline present in different scenarios, as in the pedagogical field. Moreover, the use of technology in the classroom has evidenced an increasing motivation among students (Díaz-Cintas, 2012; Talaván, 2013, 2019).
With the aim of promoting linguistic learning, a project has been designed within the framework of translation and accessibility, based on the teaching of Subtitling for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (SDH), with a special focus in the acquisition of English skills (as L2), but also in Spanish (as L1). Hence, the use of Didactic Audiovisual Translation (DAT) has been the main approach in this project developed within a course on didactic SDH for higher education students.
The data obtained from this project shows that the use of SDH in the classroom helps to enhance both listening and written skills set by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for L2 learning.
