Beitrag der Sprachtechnologie zur Barrierefreiheit. Unterstützung für Leichte Sprache
Year of publication
“Leichte Sprache” is a movement in German-speaking countries to make textual information more accessible via the definition of rules that reduce textual complexity. Language Technology (LT) like customizable text proofing tools can advance activities related to “Leichte Sprache”. The contribution has several dimensions: On the one hand, LT can assist in making rules more precise. LT can also check adherence to rules automatically. On the other hand, LT can – via reuse of rules from the realm of technical authoring and preediting for Machine Translation – extend the set of existing rules for “Leichte Sprache”. The contribution of LT, technical authoring, and preediting to “Leichte Sprache”, however, is not a one way street since some of the rules that originate with “Leichte Sprache” are good additions to the established rules sets for technical authoring and preediting. The article provides an overview of rules related to “Leichte Sprache”, suggests a “rule superset”, and presents insights into first language technologies that support the creation of content in compliance with the rules.
