In a bedroom, Isabelle sleeps, deep in narcolepsy, while the king, her father, by the head of the bed, and her mother, at its foot, weep exaggeratedly. The audience in the same room is made up of Henry VIII and Queen Victoria, an ogre, the court’s fool, and a knight. Attempting to awake his daughter, the king resorts to his subjects, who use every mean available to them. This article discusses the animated film — Sleeping Betty— by the Canadian director Claude Cloutier as an intersemiotic recreation of Sleeping beauty, and as a re-signification of disjunctions in a post-modern society; the article also aims at functioning as a pre-script for audiodescribers.
