Abstract
The article starts with the definition of dubbing, the situation of the professionals in the fields of dubbing and subtitling, and the tasks involved in working with texts and audiovisual material. The author compares literary translation with audiovisual translation, explaining the characteristics of both discourses. He also takes into account the importance of the audience in this work, comparing the American and English audiences with other countries. In this connection, he makes a compilation of the different techniques used in several countries such as France, Italy, and Cambodia. The article presents the differences between dubbing and subtitling and the complexities and problems of both techniques, trying to meet quality standards, and helping the explanation with some examples, such as how to treat the problem of regional accents, the slang and popular expressions, the adaptation of humor, etc.
