Uma proposta de audiodescrição de pinturas de Bruegel sob a perspectiva dos estudos da tradução e da semiótica social multimodal

The thesis, carried out from the perspective of accessible audiovisual translation studies and multimodal social semiotics, focuses on the audio description of paintings. The use of audio description of two dimensional works of art as a tool for the accessibility of the visually impaired is still sparse and studies have been carried out in search of its expansion. In terms of academic research in Brazil, the works of Araújo and Magalhães (2012), Araújo and Oliveira Jr. (2013) and Aderaldo (2014) constitute a step in this direction. They are all part of a research group project from the State University of Ceará (LEAD/UECE), dedicated to studying subtitling for the deaf and audio description for the visually impaired. This thesis is also part of the works of the group and is inserted in the context of studies already carried out in search of a methodology for the audio description of paintings. Thus, it is aimed at writing the audio description script of paintings after a semiotic analysis theoretically anchored on O’Toole’s (2011) model. It also takes into account the works of De Coster and Mühleis (2007) and Holland (2009) on the audio description of visual arts. The corpus for the audio description is constituted of two paintings by the Dutch painter Pieter Bruegel (c. 1525-1569): Hunters in the Snow and The Harvesters. The audio descriptions of the paintings were subject of a reception research with visually impaired participants in order to evaluate the appreciation of the paintings through their resignification in the verbal code. The research confirms the importance of a semiotic model of analysis as it had already been mentioned in other works and brings a novel component, the data from the reception research, which had not been carried out in the previous studies. In terms of results, through the answers of the visually impaired in the Recall Protocols, it is evident that audio description can contribute to provide the visually impaired with an aesthetic experience of visual works of art such as paintings. Such results constitute a step, even if it is a subtle one, in the search for more widespread accessibility of the visually impaired to the appreciation of paintings through audio description.
A tese, desenvolvida na perspectiva da interface dos estudos da tradução audiovisual (TAV) acessível e da semiótica social multimodal, explora a audiodescrição de pinturas. O uso da audiodescrição como ferramenta de acessibilidade para Pessoas com Deficiência Visual (PcDV) na área de mídia estática ainda é restrito e estudos vêm sendo realizados na tentativa de expansão. Em termos de pesquisas acadêmicas no Brasil, trabalhos como os de Araújo e Magalhães (2012), Araújo e Oliveira Jr. (2013) e Aderaldo (2014) constituem um avanço nessa busca. São pesquisas vinculadas ao grupo LEAD (Legendagem e Audiodescrição) - UECE, e às quais esta tese dá continuidade, à procura de caminhos metodológicos para nortear a audiodescrição de obras de arte bidimensionais. Dessa forma, a tese apresenta uma proposta de audiodescrição de pinturas efetuada a partir de uma análise das obras, teoricamente ancorada no modelo semiótico de O’Toole (2011). Foi também utilizado o suporte dos trabalhos de De Coster e Mühleis (2007) e Holland (2009) em audiodescrição de artes visuais. O corpus de pinturas para as audiodescrições é constituído de dois quadros do pintor holandês Pieter Bruegel (c. 1525-1569), intitulados: Caçadores na Neve (1565) e Os Ceifadores (1565). Após a análise dos quadros e a elaboração dos roteiros, as audiodescrições foram submetidas a uma pesquisa de recepção com PcDVs, utilizando-se Relatos Livres e Guiados, com a finalidade de avaliar a apreciação das obras por meio de sua ressignificação no código verbal. A pesquisa corrobora a importância do modelo semiótico de análise já apontada pelos estudos anteriores e inova ao apresentar dados de pesquisa de recepção, aspecto ainda não explorado nos estudos mencionados. Os resultados evidenciam, por meio das respostas das PcDVs tanto ao Relato Livre quanto ao Relato Guiado, a possibilidade da experiência estética proporcionada pela ressignificação verbal de uma obra de arte visual - pintura. Tais resultados constituem um passo, ainda que sutil, na busca de mais ampla acessibilidade de PcDVs à apreciação de pinturas por meio da audiodescrição.
