Abstract
The article is an attempt at addressing the problem of accessibility in the context of opera in Poland. Seen from a wider perspective, the idea of media accessibility may encompass opera performances with a number of available accessibility solutions, examples being libretto adaptation, opera surtitling, audio description or assisted listening systems. However, in Poland it seems that the idea of accessible opera is regarded as something fairly novel and maybe unorthodox, and therefore, may be perceived with considerable reluctance. Having discussed the accessibility services in opera companies around the world, the article looks at similar solutions in Polish opera companies and tries to address the question on the accessibility of opera performances in Poland.
